Gwent is Shutting Down on Consoles

Starting today - that's the 4th December - all in-game purchases are being disabled on PS4, and then, on the 9th December, you'll no longer be able to play against others online.

"Considering that PC and mobile are the most popular platforms among Gwent players, we have made a tough decision: to discontinue support of console versions of the game", the developer writes.

Gwent first released in beta in 2017 on PC, before coming to consoles in late 2018.

It was announced today that support for Gwent on Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will be discontinued in early December, limiting the game's functionality until the company pulls the game from consoles entirely in mid-2020. Moreover, PS4 players need to spend their powder before transferring their progress if they want to keep the "equivalent value". You can not merge accounts; if you played the game on console and PC/mobile, you have to create a new GOG account if you want to keep your goodies.

According to CD Projekt Red, ceasing Gwent console support is due to the increase in player count following the launch of Gwent on iOS and Android.

"Looking to the future, we do not believe we can support a growing number of different versions of GWENT while improving feature parity between them", the company said. While many console gamers enjoy it, the number of players isn't the same as other platforms.

However, on December 9 through June 9, 2020, you'll be able to copy your mobile account to a new or existing GOG account. CDPR is implementing a system to allow players to carry over progress to an existing GOG account, in which you can play on PC or Mobile devices.

We can expect more news regarding the transfer process on December 12th. Truth is, if they have to shut down any version, the consoles versions make most sense. All matchmaking with non-console platforms will go away, too.

CDPR explained that due to the number of platforms GWENT is now available on; they had to make some cutbacks.

This account-copying process will be available for a period of 6 months - from 09/12/2019 to 09/06/2020.
