Betting Odds Released On Carolina Panthers’ Next Head Coach

They fired head coach Ron Rivera, who had been in that position since 2011.

Scott Turner will be taking over offensive coordinator responsibilities from his father as Tepper wants to take a look at the different "talent" that is already within the organization.

Not long after this unexpected news was released, the connections between Rivera and Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott started being discussed.

Rivera was named the NFL's Coach of the Year two times during his run with the Panthers, including in 2015 when he led the team to a 15-1 record and a trip to the Super Bowl where they lost to the Broncos.

Secondary coach Perry Fewell will take over as interim coach for the 5-7 Panthers. Rivera was dealt a tough hand in 2019 as quarterback Cam Newton went down after Week 2 and ultimately landed on injured reserve.

Rivera guided the team to one Super Bowl appearance, but Carolina is has yet to put together back-to-back winning seasons in its 25 years.

Rivera was hired as the franchise's fourth head coach in 2011, accumulating a 76-63-1 regular-season record - the most wins in franchise history - and 3-4 postseason record. Essentially, Riley has about as good a resume as any college coach of recent times, and the questions about him are more hesitations than anything else, but there is always going to be a risk in hiring a coach directly from the college game with no experience as a coordinator at the National Football League level. We will consider a wide range of football executives to complement our current football staff. The duo made history in Carolina, leading the Panthers to four playoff appearances and that included the franchise's second Super Bowl appearance. There will be more decisions to come in the front office as Tepper's statement says the team will be hiring an assistant general manager and vice president of football operations.

"We all must recognize that this is the first step in a process, but we are committed to building and maintaining a championship culture for our team and our fans", Tepper said.

Plenty of teams will rightfully be expressing heavy interest in Rivera now that his services will be available for 2020, one of which needs to be Philadelphia.
