The Vampire Diaries alum plays hunter Luther Swann racing to understand a genetic condition that has turned his best friend, Michael Fayne, and others into bloodthirsty vampires. So let's see what's happening in the trailer for Netflix's V-Wars, a series based on the popular IDW comic by Jonathan Maberry and Alan Robinson. Could anyone else deliver the line "I am a doctor", while shooting someone in the face, quite like Somerhalder? But the blood-soaked, action-packed trailer will most definitely give TVD fans a major dose of nostalgia. One of the intrepid heroes trying to cancel the free lunch is Dr. Luther Swan, portrayed by Ian Somerhalder, who knows plenty about toothy bloodsuckers after portraying one for 171 episodes of The Vampire Diaries as the costar of CW shows that ended in 2017 after eight supernatural seasons.

While vampires are conquering the world, his best friend, Michael Fayne (Adrian Holmes), is a victim of the same evil. The disease starts spreading, turning people into a predator who feeds on humans.

As the disease spreads and more people transform, society is divided into two factions, facing normal people against a growing number of these "vampires". "We can address real social problems and intertwine them in a fictional narrative that feels so real". The 10-episode series will launch on the streaming service on December 5th. "The foundation that a organic pathogen kept hidden and dormant is uncovered thanks to fast climate trade and glacial ice melt wreaks havoc on the sphere is no longer that far-fetched, unfortunately".

V Wars premieres Thursday, Dec. 5 on Netflix.

In addition to Somerhalder and Holmes, the cast includes Jacky Lai, Peter Outerbridge, Kyle Breitkopf, Laura Vandervoot and Kimberly Sue-Murray.
