The Celtics allowed opponents to score 108.0 points per game and shoot 44.8% from the field last season.

Hayward finished with 39 points on 17-for-21 shooting, with seven rebounds and eight assists, as the Celtics held off the pesky Cavaliers, 119-113, at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. He did a good job when guarded by big guys.

Hayward, 29 years old and a nine-year veteran of the league, is now averaging 20.3 points per game on the year, trailing only Walker and Jayson Tatum on his own team. "He did a good job when guarded by small guys". Coach Brad Stevens said Kanter "really wants to play, but our medical staff doesn't feel like he's ready yet.".

Stepping up for the Hornets with Walker gone has been second-year guard Devonte' Graham. F Alfonzo McKinnie scored his first points of the season, a 3 in the first quarter.

Graham sank two of three from the free-throw line with 1.7 seconds remaining to ice the win, the Hornets' third in a row. "I trust him, believe in him and I think that's apparent. I think we all realize that".

Against Boston, Charlotte will be without swingman Nicolas Batum, who has been sidelined since fracturing his finger in the team's season-opening win over the Chicago Bulls.

"Probably a case, I don't know what the film's going to show, ball-watching", Cavaliers forward Kevin Love said.

It's been a long wait for the star, who missed all but one game in the 2017-18 season due to the injury, then returned to average 11.5 points (his lowest mark since his rookie season) in 2018-19.

The Celtics may also get Enes Kanter back in the lineup.
