Wasn't socially awkward. Was involved in student activities.

"This kind of came out of the blue", the sheriff told CNN. The suspect is hospitalized in critical condition, authorities said. "And I think one of the hardest parts about it is, you know, what are we supposed to say at this point?"

Her father, Terrence Hardges, said she texted him from inside the classroom and he was casually scrolling through his texts when he saw the message.

Grieving students from Saugus High School reunite with their parents at Central Park in Santa Clarita after a fatal school shooting on November 14, 2019.

The account was disabled for violating Instagram policies, spokesperson Stephanie Otway said.

It wasn't immediately clear on what the other victims' injuries were or what their conditions were.

Finn is a detective assigned to the Santa Clarita Police Station.

"We had no clue whether the shooter was on the opposite side of campus or right outside our door", Mojica told a local reporter.

"Five is just a huge number and you just think about those kids", Clay said. The suspect pulled a.45 semi-automatic pistol from his backpack in an outdoor school courtyard and opened fire.

"This administration will remain resolved to bring the scourge of mass shootings to an end, and we will not rest until we end this evil in our time and make our schools and our communities safe again", he added.

"He used literally six rounds that he fired and he saved the last round for himself", Villanueva said.

"Parents, deputies are on scene everywhere protecting your children", the sheriff's office tweeted. "You would never know that something like this would happen at your school and now that it has happened, it feels weird and unusual".

Students at the school described their terror when they realised what was unfolding.

No names of the wounded or the dead were released early on Friday, but the two slain students were a 16-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy. The boy has not been identified.

No further information was given due to a security hold on the case, the official stated.

The injured are two girls, aged 14 and 15, and one boy, aged 14.

A bullet hit the 15-year-old below the belly button and traveled to her hip, her doctor said.

There appears to be no connection between the suspect and the victims other than all were students, the sheriff said.

"He wasn't chasing anyone", Villanueva said.

A next-door neighbour, registered nurse Jared Axen, said the suspect had seemed introverted, quiet and sad, possibly despondent over the loss of his father from a heart attack in December 2017. He also said that, as officials confirmed, Thursday was his former friend's birthday. A school surveillance camera captured the shooting as it occurred.
