Bale gave football fans a glimpse of his brilliance after the 30-year-old put in a vital impressive performance as Wales demolished Hungary 2-0 to clinch Euro 2020 ticket in style.

Bale's absence through injury for the final qualifier against Ireland proved fatal to Wales' chances of reaching a first World Cup since 1958, but he has shrugged off a calf injury that has kept him sidelined for Real Madrid in recent weeks to make himself available to coach Ryan Giggs.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that newly appointed manager of Tottenham Jose Mourinho has reportedly identified Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale as his first target for the Premier League side when transfer opens. "He will be decisive again", another source of the Spanish publication close to Real Madrid told them. Mourinho wanted Bale to join United in 2017 but, in front of the cameras, said a move for him was impossible "because you don't talk" in reference to Bale needing to force a move out of Madrid.

The Spaniards have not taken it well.

Bale's decision to pose with a giant flag that read "Wales".

Bale had irked the Madrid hierarchy by holding aloft the message 'Wales. Real Madrid supporters have always been touchy about Bale's perceived love for golf and the notion that he puts it before his club responsibilities. However, Marca claim that Madrid are not ready to sell the Welshman in January window as they believe he still has an important role to play at the club.

On Friday he admitted to feeling "more excitement playing for Wales" than he does for Real Madrid.

This all certainly has the feel of a means to an end in Spain.
