And in a mostly meaningless preseason game, Williamson delivered what folks in New Orleans had been hoping to see: dunks, and some pretty impressive ones.

Earlier, he showed a bit more finesse with a move in the post. However, coach Gentry isn't encouraging the comparisons and wants the rookie out of Duke to focus on becoming a great player using his "own name".

New Orleans star Zion Williamson has given National Basketball Association fans a superb taste of what to expect, with an insane play in his first pre-season match.

"There's very few guys, at 19 years old, who can come in and impact this league".

"It was a lot of fun", Williamson said afterward.

Zion Williamson is the centerpiece of that.

In other words, they did exactly what Pelicans fans expected them to do.

"They shouldn't do that [comparing]". "We are not doing that".

"I didn't expect that many people to come", Williamson said.

But the Pelicans have been a franchise dyin' for Zion dating back to mid-May, when the team won the NBA's Draft Lottery and lined itself up for top pick Zion Williamson. "I know that it's inevitable that that's going to be the case, but we are not drinking that Kool-Aid".

Just a couple minutes later, Lonzo Ball found Williamson on the fast-break and the Duke-product did what he does best, flushing it home with two hands. "But I'm a rookie, I'm trying to feel things out".

But Houston Rockets legend Kenny Smith already believes that Williamson is an extremely unique player.

Sure, there were holes in Williamson's game to be poked. The first National Basketball Association game.
