Dr. Erin Courtney said there's already been confirmed cases of the flu in Ontario. The survey, conducted by Insights West on behalf of London Drugs, showed that among those who plan to get a flu shot this year, half will go to a pharmacy. During the 2018-19 influenza season, there were 125 influenza related deaths in the County.

Despite the seriousness of influenza, only about half of pregnant women in the USA get the flu vaccine, according to the CDC.

The vaccination clinics are a part of the Hawaiʻi State Department of Healthʻs annual Stop Flu at School program, which began earlier this week.

The county and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that everyone older than six months be immunized against the flu.

Symptoms of the flu include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headaches and fatigue, according to health officials. The best protection against flu-like illness is to stay away from sick people.

"Getting vaccinated also protects others who may be at a higher risk of complications from flu".

The flu virus is tough to fight because of how easily it can adapt to things like antiviral agents or medications.

The Hawai'i State Department of Health's (DOH) annual Stop Flu at School program began last week and will continue in 185 public schools statewide through November 27, 2019.
