Before the Motorola One Macro, we saw the Motorola One Zoom, and before that the One Action, One Vision, and One. The smartphone has debuted in the India market first and now its launch in other countries will follow. The display also features a waterdrop notch housing selfie camera, thin bezels and a sizeable chin.

Some smartphones have a macro lenses already, like the Honor 20 Pro, but since many handsets without the lens have a mode to replicate it, the kit hasn't become as popular as telephoto or ultra-wide. As the name suggests, the One Macro is a camera-focussed device bringing macro photography to the lineup. Theres only one version for now, 4/64GB in Space Blue. The Motorola One Macro is claimed to have a water-repellent design and comes with an IPX2 rating.

Motorola One Macro is priced at Rs 9,999 and it will be available starting October 12 on Flipkart. The smartphone is powered by MediaTek's Helio P70 octa-core processor paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage. It includes a 13MP (f/2.0) primary sensor and a 2MP (f/2.2) depth sensor, which isn't the flawless setup.

In the camera department, well, the highlight of the Moto One Macro is the 2MP (f/2.2) macro lens that sits at the top to make it stand out from other Motorola One phones. The main sensor of 13-megapixel has f/2.0 aperture and a pixel size of 1.2micron. For selfies, there could be an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. It also offers a microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 512GB. It may primarily be used as a notification indicator but it also calls to mind Amazon Alexa which has been pre-installed on some Motorola phones in the past.

Having a popup camera is no longer really a surprise and often the benefits are presented to far outweigh the added complexity or the reduced water resistance. On the software front it runs Android 9 Pie out-of-the-box. The smartphone also comes with a 4,000 mAh non-removable battery.

Back to the macro camera – it can focus from as close as 2cm (under 1”) and uses a 2MP sensor with 1.75µm pixels.
