Hard Rock Hotel in New Orleans collapses, no injuries reported

One person died and at least 18 others were injured Saturday (Oct 12) when the top floors of a New Orleans hotel that was under construction collapsed, officials said.

"We're praying for the individuals who remain unaccounted for", John Bel Edwards, the governor of Louisiana, said at the press conference.

The building collapse was caught in a dramatic video.

"It was a deep rumbling sound", Matt Worges, who saw the collapse from a nearby building, told The Times-Picayune/The New Orleans Advocate.

"The building is unstable so a collapse is still possible - further collapse of the building", McConnell said.

Eighteen people were transported to local hospitals and three were still missing, New Orleans Fire Chief Timothy McConnell said at a press conference Saturday.

One person has been confirmed killed and three are unaccounted for after a large portion of a hotel under construction in New Orleans suddenly collapsed. "The crane is still in place but it is unsupported and very unsafe".

Injuries were reported after the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino under construction in New Orleans partially collapses. "Structural engineers are now assessing what led to the cause of the collapse". Please avoid the area & listen to public safety officials.

The cause wasn't immediately known.

The Canal Street construction of the hotel in downtown New Orleans was announced in February 2018. As dust settled following the morning collapse, twisted metal, concrete pilings and other wreckage covered part of Rampart Street. Plans were unveiled past year.
