Ballerina will be a story about a young female assassin, who like John Wick, seeks revenge - except, she will be seeking revenge against the people who murdered her family.

All you die-hard fans need not worry the 4th instalment of the franchise is still a top priority at the studio, so whatever happens, this will come first and is now set for a May 2021 release.

The hyper-masculine movies in the "John Wick" franchise are taking a feminine turn with another sequel to the cult-favorite, Keanu Reeves-fronted series, according to Deadline.

Few details have yet been released about Ballerina, so it's unknown whether John Wick or the Director will appear in the movie, or how much the movie will intertwine with the main John Wick series continuity.

Reeves' character returned with a $14 million price tag on his head and an army of bounty-hunting killers on his trail after he murdered a member of the shadowy global assassin's guild, the High Table, John Wick is ex-communicado, but the world's most ruthless hit men and women await his every turn. Unity Phelan is in the credits of Parabellum under the character Ballerina, but I am not sure who will be the star of the spinoff.

It's also not yet known whether Reeves will make a cameo appearance in the movie.

Wiseman launched his star as a filmmaker with another female-driven action franchise, the vampire/werewolf Underworld series.

Keanu Reeves as John Wick.

What we do know is that Lionsgate has placed Ballerina on the fast track, with Shay Hatten (Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead) on script duties. Nevertheless, we're quietly confident that Wiseman and Hatten will deliver the goods.
