However, there's no news about the phone's launch date and the design of the lastest Essential phone 2 is yet to be finalized.

For the first time after sexual misconduct allegations, the Essential Products CEO Andy Rubin, also known as the "Father of Android", shared a glimpse of the unusual phone prototype on Twitter. The gadget sports a shape we don't typically associate with smartphones, and some pretty wild colors.

Essential's founder Andy Rubin has tweeted a few photos and videos showing off the upcoming Essential smartphone. Rubin mentioned that Essential is working on a new UI for a radically different form factor. Both make it clear that this new device looks very different compared to the original Essential Phone.

Essential had filed for a patent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) to trademark the "GEM" name, and so, we believe that the new phone from the company will be called as the Essential GEM. Rather than the tweets of Rubin and essential official account, no further information is given about Essential's next phone. It's now in early testing with our team outside the lab. Look forward to sharing more in the near future!

The handset itself has a large physical button and volume rocker along its right edge, and a physical fingerprint sensor below the camera on its rear panel. It is likely this Project GEM device is running a version of Android and looking at the display, we see it connected to AT&T with LTE, Spotify, Phone, Maps (not a Google Maps icon though), Camera, Messages, and Gallery. There is no word when Essential will launch the device and the details are scarce. Additionally, the phone is rumored to be controlled mainly through voice commands, with an AI assistant performing numerous tasks.
