Deutsche Bank doesn't have Donald Trump tax returns, court reveals

A federal appeals court revealed Thursday that President Donald Trump's longtime lender, Deutsche Bank, does not have Trump's personal tax returns.

The disclosure came amid an ongoing fight between Trump and Congress, as the President attempts to stay subpoenas served on the bank as part of an inquiry by the House Intelligence and Financial Services committees.

Court filings show that the House also subpoenaed financial documents related to Trump-owned entities, but those subpoenas don't include tax returns. Articles appear on for a limited time.

A decision on whether Deutsche Bank needs to hand over the banking records of Trump, his children and businesses is still pending, the court confirmed.

Trump's lawyers and Deutsche Bank opposed the media request to unseal the letter filed with the court.

But while the previously redacted letter said Deutsche Bank held tax returns for two individuals named in the subpoenas, their identities were withheld.

That prompted a challenge from several news organizations who asked the US 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals to unseal a letter the bank had filed with the court about the records.

The appeals panel has yet to rule on that issue. The case is one of several testing the power of Congress to compel production of a sitting president's financial records in the name of oversight.

However, in its ruling, the court said Deutsche Bank's letter revealed the tax returns it has for individuals or entities named in the subpoenas were not those of the president.

"The fact that Deutsche Bank has their tax returns adds nothing to the arguments of the parties in the pending appeal".

Capital One had previously instructed the court docket it had no tax returns responsive to the congressional subpoenas.

No longer like previous presidents, Trump has refused to open his tax returns and has sued to investigate cross-take a look at to quit the banks and his accounting agency from complying with congressional subpoenas.
