UK TV history is set to be made on Dancing On Ice, with the first same-sex couple reported to be dancing together next year.

Steps singer Ian "H" Watkins will team up with professional dancer Matt Evers for the 2020 iteration of the programme.

The insider said: "After conversations with the Dancing on Ice production team, H enquired as to the possibility of being paired with a male professional skater".

They continued: 'Dancing on Ice had been totally supportive of a same-intercourse partnership and as such this year H will be paired with Matt Evers'.

The BBC had previously said it was "completely open" to having them on Strictly Come Dancing, but this has not yet happened. This year, he was partnered with Gemma Collins, and they finished in eighth place.

However, a spokesperson for the show said that they would not be "commenting on speculation around the Dancing on Ice pairings until closer to the new series in 2020".

Act, who won UK Celebrity Big Brother a year ago, also said she would jump at the chance to dance as a same sex-couple here in the UK.

If confirmed, this will be the latest in a series of shake-ups for Dancing On Ice.

Jayne Torvill, Christopher Dean and Ashley Banjo will be joined on the judging panel by John Barrowman, following the departure of Jason Gardiner.

The news follows the BBC hinting that Strictly Come Dancing would be opening up the door to same-sex pairings in future.

Other names on the line up for the next series include TV presenter and former I'm A Celebrity victor, Joe Swash; TV entertainer, Michael Barrymore; Love Islander, Maura Higgins; and TV personality and chat show legend, Trisha Goddard.

He tweeted in reference to the show's first same-sex pairing writing: "We are making History!" Coronation Street's Lisa George, Paralympic sprinter Libby Clegg and Diversity dancer Perri Kiely will also compete on the ice.
