According to a statement of Habibie's personal secretary Rubijanto, attendees at the funeral will comprise Vice President Jusuf Kalla and his wife, Military Commander Chief Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto, and Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian. Habibie was born in June 1936 in a small town in South Sulawesi, and studied aviation and aerospace engineering in Germany and the Netherlands before returning home in the mid-1970s.

Habibie is survived by his two sons.
