Former Vikings kicker only lasts a game with the Jets

He has hit from 21, 23 and 34 yards, missed from 28, 36 and 46 yards and is 14 of 15 on extra points. The Jets opened training camp with Chandler Catanzaro, who retired after a shaky preseason opener. However, the Rams re-signed him in September and he kicked in a few regular-season games before being released in October.

Now, it appears as though Vedvik's tenure in NY is finished after just one week.

NY signed free agent Sam Ficken after he won the team's kicking tryout on Tuesday. Ficken played two games for the Rams last season while Pro Bowler Greg Zeurlein was out.

The team also announced it waived Kaare Vedvik after he missed an extra point and a 45-yard field-goal attempt in the Jets' 17-16 season-opening loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

Ficken went undrafted out of Penn State in 2015 before signing with the Jaguars in 2016. He would make just two regular-season appearances going 2-for-3 and connect on both his field-goal attempts in the postseason. This time, however, would not prove to be as successful.

Ficken attempted only one field goal for the Packers in the preseason (he made it), and was 5-for-5 on extra points.

If there is a positive takeaway from this signing, Ficken has missed just one of his 15 extra-point tries in his brief National Football League career and that's something that the likes of Bertolet and Vedvik have struggled with. You're the next contestant on the Jets' kicking crusade. "We can't be losing points on those areas of the field".

Sam Ficken is back on a National Football League roster.
