Weird analogies aside, it's clear with this new film, Ford v Ferrari, Mangold is looking at some potential Oscar consideration here.

True life story? Check, as Le Mans '66 tells the story American auto designer Carroll Shelby and driver Ken Miles as they battle corporate interference, the laws of physics, and their own personal demons to build a revolutionary race vehicle for Ford and challenge Ferrari at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966.

To put the challenge for Shelby and Miles into perspective, Ferrari's machines scored overall wins at Le Mans consecutively from 1960 to 1965, not to mention victories in 1954 and '58.

See the new trailer and poster below. The film made its debut at the Telluride Film Festival in August and received mostly warm praise.

Even if you're not a auto or racing fan, this is going to be a movie to check out.

The latest trailer for Ford v Ferrari is here, and it provides a much better look at the story behind Carroll Shelby and Ken Miles' development of the Ford GT40. But it offers ample pleasures in performance-from stars Matt Damon and Christian Bale-and design. Molly Miles was also a racing auto driver. However, he also noted that when the film isn't focused on the racing, "Mangold has to slam on the brakes to focus on bland character moments that are clearly meant to be emotional, but never quite connect". Even though the film clocks in at over two and a half hours, editors Michael McCusker and Andrew Buckland keep the momentum going at all times, making the whole affair feel as brisk as one of the hundreds of laps of the Le Mans race track. Those anxious about the entire film being CGI can rest easy-the film is meant to be authentic and realistic. November 15th can't come soon enough...
