Roger Federer brushed aside Dan Evans in straight sets to march into the fourth round of the US Open.

Evans is not the first to moan about the subject. "That's tennis. It's entertainment, and the show must go on", he added.

Evans blasted organizers for giving him short rest after a rain-delayed match while his 38-year-old Swiss rival rested after playing Wednesday under the roof at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

"Sometimes it does seem that maybe certain players get more favoured ..."

"Just to try and beat him feeling exhausted, stiff, playing four sets yesterday, it's near on impossible", Evans said after he lost 6-2, 6-2, 6-1.

"I'm sick and exhausted of it, that apparently I call the shots", Federer said.

"There's something with him that when I get into my best game, I know that it's going to have some big rallies and I'm going to play good tennis", Wawrinka said.

"I think everything is just clicking with me", said Andreescu, who had never gone beyond round two at a major prior to this tournament.

"We can give our opinion. But I'm still going to walk out even if they schedule me at 04:00 in the morning".

The leaping, over-the-shoulder volley packed with pace. The returns that accumulated 14 break points, converting half.

Federer said: "You could definitely argue that the scheduling was not in his favour".

The record 20-time Grand Slam victor Federer had dropped the first set in each of his first two matches at Flushing Meadows.

- Count Serena Williams among those who will be tuning in for Saturday's third-round showdown between Naomi Osaka and Coco Gauff.

Williams continued her quest for a 24th career Grand Slam title to equal Margaret Court's all-time record by crushing 44th-ranked Czech Karolina Muchova 6-3, 6-2 in 74 minutes. She'll face No. 22 Petra Martic on Sunday for a spot in the quarterfinals. Just, you know, I get pretty fired up and pumped up.

The No. 3 seeded Swiss was the stronger player from the baseline and hit 48 winners including 10 aces.

Djokovic has been in good form despite seemingly being affected by a shoulder injury.

Also on Friday, Dominik Koepfer beat No. 17 Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-3, 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-1 to advance to the round of 16, becoming only the second qualifier to make it that far in this tournament in the past decade.

Roger Federer said he is sick and exhausted of complaints that he receives a favourable playing schedule after his latest US Open victim suggested on Friday the five-time champion gets preferential treatment.

Men who advanced included defending champion Novak Djokovic, a 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 victor over Denis Kudla; 2016 champion Stan Wawrinka; Alex de Minaur, who knocked off 2014 runner-up Kei Nishikori; and Dominik Koepfer, a German ranked 118th who defeated No. 17 Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-1 to become only the second qualifier in the last decade to reach the men's fourth round at the US Open.
