Cristiano Ronaldo scored four goals as Portugal beat Lithuania in Euro 2020 qualifying.

But within seven minutes Ronaldo had his first of the night from the penalty spot before adding three further goals to take his overall worldwide tally to 93.

Playing in his 161st worldwide, the 34-year-old notched his eighth hat-trick for his country and the 54th of his remarkable career to help Portugal through what had threatened to turn into a frustrating evening.

The victory saw Portugal cement second place in Group B of the Euro 2022 qualifiers, with eight points from four games.

"I'm not only happy because of the goals I've scored, but also because of the level the national team has been at in recent years".

"I'm having a good time, but the team was doing very well too", said Ronaldo.

"This is the clear and irrevocable proof that he is the best player in the world", Santos told the media, as per Football Italia.

On Tuesday, Ronaldo started from the penalty spot, following a handball with a clinical finish in the seventh minute.

Ronaldo set up good chances for Felix and Bernardo Silva, which were wasted, after the break before taking matters into his own hands. Portugal's 34-year-old captain is on the warpath, though, helping his side to three valuable qualiyfing points and scoring against a 40th country in his illustrious career.

Three of the goals came during a 15-minute flurry in the second half, and the reigning European champions might have needed it more than it seemed.

Aleksandar Mitrovic scored twice to keep Serbia's hopes alive with a win in Luxemburg.
