Duke slides in 2020 US News and World Report rankings

Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo has again claimed top spots in national college evaluations - claiming high marks from U.S. News & World Report for its engineering and teaching programs.

Pitt is ranked 18th with Florida State, Penn State and Purdue universities after being No. 26 in the magazine's previous ranking.

University of California Merced also climbed to a tie with 12 other colleges at No. 104 from No. 136 in overall ranking for national universities.

Johns Hopkins also remains the nation's No. 1-ranked undergraduate biomedical engineering program, according to U.S. News, and ranks No. 15 among undergraduate engineering programs overall. Last year, the rankings first began to account for factors of social mobility, including the graduation rates of Pell Grant recipients.

"While this ranking affirms Emory's standing among the nation's most eminent research universities, we remain as committed as ever to our important work of advancing an academic environment focused on innovation, discovery and learning of the very highest order of excellence", Dwight A. McBride, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs, wrote in a September 9 University press release.

The rankings compare colleges based on ACT/SAT Scores, student-faculty ratios, tuition and several other areas.

No. 66 Best Undergraduate Business Programs. The university's predicted graduation rate is 74%, nine percentage points below its actual graduation rate of 83%. The national universities category comprises 381 institutions (208 public, 172 private and 1 proprietary) that offer a wide range of undergraduate majors as well as master's and doctoral degrees. U.S. News cited the school's wildlife refuge as a distinguishing characteristic.

In May, seven years after Trachtenberg wrote his piece, it was revealed that the University of Oklahoma gave "inflated" data on its alumni giving rates for twenty years, in an effort to improve their ranking. In 2018-2019, there were 572 members of the military enrolled at UCLA, the highest among the top 26 schools ranked in the category. This ranking measures how well schools graduate students who receive federal Pell Grants.

The University of Notre Dame finished the highest among IN institutions, ranking No. 15 on the national universities list. Harvard University was second in the rankings followed by Columbia University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Yale University tied in the third spot.
