Most Americans don't trust what they hear from official White House communications, according to a new CNN poll released Tuesday afternoon.

Fifty-six percent said they disapprove of how Mr. Trump is handling his job in the ABC News-Washington Post survey.

The health of the U.S. economy is one of the central themes of Trump's campaign for re-election to a second four-year term in 2020, hammered at by the president and his aides at every opportunity.

Another 60 percent are concerned that the tit-for-tat tariffs between Washington and Beijing will cause an increase in prices on goods, while 38 percent are less concerned, the ABC News/Washington Post survey found.

Trump also gets bad marks for his handling of the economy - 47 percent disapprove to 46 percent who approve - and trade talks with China - 56 percent disapprove to 35 percent who approve. Only 42 percent of white women approved of Trump. Most also believe that there's a direct correlation between Trump's trade policies and the possibility that a recession will come to pass.

On September 9 2019, President Donald Trump used his Twitter account to push a claim of record popularity that has already been debunked by several news organizations. It was a Fake Poll by two very bad and risky media outlets.

Trump, who regularly complains about unfavourable polls, denounced the latest poll as "the worst and most inaccurate poll of any" since his 2016 election. "Internal polling looks great, the best ever!"

CNN political director David Chalian said that of all the numbers in a new CNN poll that one should send a "chill" down the spine of the re-election campaign for President Donal Trump.

The survey of 1,003 USA adults was taken from Sept 2-5 and has a margin of error of 3.5 percentage points.
