In the third quarter, iPhone sales equaled less than half of Apple's revenues - down from 63% four year ago. Apple TV+'s low price point is obviously meant to compete with Disney+, which will cost $6.99 per month and launches november 12.

All in all, though, the option we laid out above for just $60 a month should keep most people plenty busy for now and provide a ton of content to binge.

Apple undercut the competition in the burgeoning streaming video war when it announced a $5.99 monthly price tag for its subscription service in Canada.

The star of the show will undoubtedly be the introduction of three new iPhones to succeed the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR.

Likely priced at about $US16-17 per month, HBO Max will offer a library of HBO hits such as Game of Thrones, Friends and The Sopranos, as well as original content. There's also fast wireless charging available at 15W, beating Apple's 7.5W wireless charging speeds. The original series was produced exclusively for Apple TV+ subscribers. During the initial announcement back in March, Apple announced several different shows and projects exclusive to its service, including the comedy The Morning Show (starring Reese Witherspoon, Jennifer Aniston, and Steve Carell), a science-fiction drama called See (with Jason Momoa and Alfre Woodard), and several Oprah projects. The lower prices reverses a trend in which premium phones get more expensive as people upgrade them less often.

Apple has also sweetened its deal by offering buyers of an iPhone, iPad or Mac a free year of streaming TV service, opening the service potentially to hundreds of millions of viewers in more than 100 countries. The display dims but remains on so you can view both the time and your complications.

Could Apple Arcade pave the way for Amazon-style bundles?

Apple is finally divulging details about its new streaming service, Apple TV+.

"The pricing of Apple's streaming TV service at $4.99 per month is a "show stopper" and a major shot across the bow at the likes of Netflix and Disney among others", market analysts Strecker Backe and Daniel Ives of Wedbush investment firm said in a joint statement. Even there, improvements from year to year have been small. At launch, most Apple TV+ series will premiere with three episodes, with one new episode to roll out each week, while full seasons of some series will be available all at once. Apple will use the iPhone's computers to do remarkable things with the images from each of them.
