A Dutch police officer shot and killed his two young children and himself at a home in the city of Dordrecht yesterday evening, a police official said.

Photos from the scene showed a large police presence in a residential neighborhood and at least one ambulance parked in the street as people stood in the street looking on.

The 34-year-outmoded cop opened fire on his teens, ages eight and 12, at a house within the metropolis of Dordrecht, Dutch police stated. It said the couple were separating but still lived together.

No details of the incident were immediately available and it was unclear if there were fatalities.

In an initial tweet, Rotterdam police spoke of "multiple victims".

Dordrecht Mayor Wouter Kolff said on Twitter there experienced been "a extremely really serious taking pictures incident" and that he was heading to the scene.

Dordrecht is about 20km (16 miles) south-east of Rotterdam and has a population of some 120,000.
