"It's really not projected to be much more than a minimal tropical storm", Osterberg said.

Tropical Storm Ivo formed today and is now expected to produce fun - but not major - surf for Southern California and Baja.

But storm chances go back up Friday and Saturday to 50%, meaning the local weather service still has an advisory weather outlook posted suggesting some of these thunderstorm bangers could be heavy with serious lightning.

The threat for showers and storms will increase later Sunday into next week as another cold front drops in from the northwest. It is forecast to push eastward before weakening to a tropical depression by Friday.

Meanwhile closer to home, a tropical wave and upper low has entered the Southern Gulf of Mexico with this feature drifting northward and bringing the enhanced rain threat to the Northern Gulf Coast into this weekend.

The National Hurricane Center is monitoring an area of disturbed weather over the central and northwestern Bahamas that could become the fourth named storm of the season, Dorian.

The bottom line, no big storms are expected through the end of this month, but activity should be on the upswing sometime into September.
