Taylor Townsend rallies past Simona Halep in stunning US Open upset

Halep took the first round 6-2, but Townsend came back to win the next two sets 6-3, 7-6.

The pure, raw emotion from Taylor Townsend came through after she delivered one last crisp forehand volley to complete her US Open upset of two-time major champion Simona Halep, then clenched her fists, raised her arms and yelled, "Yes!"

It was the first career win against a top-10 opponent for the 23-year-old Townsend, and the first time beating the reigning Wimbledon champion Halep in four tries.

Townsend played an aggressive game, with ESPN stats showing she approached the net more than 100 times during the match.

That's what Taylor Townsend and now she's on to the third round of the US Open.
