Stephen Amell to Star in Wrestling Drama Series for Starz

The actor is now filming the eighth and final season for Arrow.

TV Line reports Amell has lined up his first post-Arrow acting gig, and is officially set to headline a new Starz drama set in the world of wrestling. The hourlong drama will get an eight-episode first season.

Heels takes a look at the independent world of small town wrestling and the men and women who strive to be a part of it. Amell will play one of two brothers Jack Spade and is cast as the heel in the promotion.

"In the real world, those characters can be hard to live up to - or hard to leave behind."

Written by Community's Michael Waldron and with The Stanford Prison Experiment's Kyle Patrick Alvarez directing, Heels has actually been pitched for years - Amell's involvement the key to finally getting the series green-lit. He's a "hard-working owner, a husband and father trying to make ends meet while fighting to realize his impossible dreams".

Written by Michael Waldron (Loki), with Mike O'Malley (Survivor's Remorse) set to serve as showrunner, Heels should make for a ideal fit for Amell. According to Deadline, Spade is described as, "the charismatic villain, or heel, of the Duffy Wrestling Association (DWA)". He was creator/executive producer of Survivor's Remorse, which ran for four seasons on the premium cable network. He's made appearances in WWE, wrestled against Christopher Daniels at All In and has a close relationship with Cody Rhodes - who he invited to join him on the new TV show.

Does this mean Stephen Amell is the most dedicated method actor in the world? Through the final ten episodes, Oliver Queen's legacy and future will be on the line leading up to the big Crisis On Infinite Earths crossover event.

Starz ordered eight hour-long episodes of Heels after Amell signed on to the show.
