Balotelli was born in Palermo but moved to Brescia at the age of two and his adoptive family still lives there, although his father died in 2015.

The newly promoted club confirmed the signing of Balotelli on Sunday, with the striker reportedly signing a three-year deal after previous negotiations with Brazilian giants Flamengo broke down.

The former Man City striker has made 18 appearances for the Azzuri with his most recent call-up having come a year ago. I'm fine, I'm serene. "I hope things don't happen like in the past".

Excitement is growing in the city in the north west of Italy.

Prolific stints with both AC Milan and Nice, either side of a disappointing spell back in England with Liverpool, all also saw Balotelli simply fail to settle. "She was very happy", Balotelli told a news conference on Monday. After scoring against Manchester United, he revealed a T-shirt under his City jersey reading, "Why Always Me?"

Brescia announced that the 29-year-old has signed a "multi-year contract" though they did not specify exactly the duration of the deal.

Balotelli was included in Roberto Mancini's first two squads and played his first matches for Italy since the 2014 World Cup but the forward has not been called up in almost a year.

However, Balotelli's debut in the Brescia shirt is not imminent as the striker has to serve a four-match ban and his return could be on September 25 against Juventus.

Balotelli scored 30 goals in 80 appearances during a two-and-a-half year spell at the Etihad, where he won the Premier League and FA Cup.

Balotelli scored 42 times in 74 goals during his time at the Allianz Riviera before moving to Marseille in January and will now try to help Brescia remain in the Italian top division following their promotion from Serie B as champions last season.
