Of course, Liu Kang is a seminal character in both the original game and film, so we're delighted to see him back in the ass-kicking tournament. Variety is reporting that Power Rangers star Ludi Lin is negotiations to play Liu Kang in WB's Mortal Kombat. It was adapted into two feature films, "Mortal Kombat" (1995), and "Mortal Kombat: Annihilation" (1997). Known as Earthrealm's greatest hero, Kang has been a fan-favorite fighter for decades. Linn previously starred in the latest season of "Black Mirror" in the episode, "Striking Vipers", and was in the 2017 reboot of "Power Rangers" as Zack, the Black Power Ranger. But New Line seems to be investing in making this new Mortal Kombat reboot good, with Joe Taslim of the cult Indonesian action flick The Raid cast in the film, and screenwriter Greg Russo promising a "hard R" rating. In addition to that, he appeared in all three Thor films as Hogun. However, he's generally known for his background in Japanese films, such as in Takashi Miike's Ichi the Killer, Takeshi Kitano's Zatoichi, and Nagisa Oshima's Taboo.

Produced by James Wan (The Conjuring, Aquman) and directed by Simon McQuoid, the reboot of Mortal Kombat is expected to be released in March, 2021 - it's set to begin shooting in Adelaide later this year. Brooks will play Jackson "Jax" Brings, Asano is taking on the role of Raiden, and Stringer is set to portray Mileena. Newcomer Sisi Stringer will portray Mileena. Two Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series debuted in 2011 and 2013 as well. Joining them as executive producers are Larry Kasanoff (Mortal Kombat, True Lies), E. Bennett Walsh (Men in Black: International, The Amazing Spider-Man 2), Michael Clear (The Nun, Lights Out), and Sean Robins (Playing with Fire, Tag).
