Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth are no strangers to breakup rumors.

"Liam and Miley have agreed to separate at this time", a spokesperson for Miley Cyrus said in a statement.

The couple finally married in a secret ceremony at their home on Christmas Eve previous year.

The rep said the pair are focusing right now on themselves and their careers but will stay "dedicated parents to all of their animals they share". "Please respect their process and privacy".

Carter took to Instagram to share photos of her and Miley on the attractive Lake Como.

The wedding came after they had an on-again, off-again relationship since 2009 when they first met.

They were initially together for three years and got engaged during that period too but called quits on their relationship in 2013.

The pair were pictured cuddling as they flaunted their toned bikini bodies at the Il Sereno hotel, alongside Cyrus' sister, Brandi.

The singer previously told Vanity Fair magazine that she does not hold old-fashioned beliefs about marriage.

In the candid chat, Miley stated: 'I think it's very confusing to people that I'm married.

Rumours of a split between the pair began swirling after the singer posted a photo of herself on Instagram without her wedding ring, even though she was wearing plenty of other jewellery.

As for Hemsworth, he spoke about his feelings for Cyrus during their first breakup, and admitted that she's a "free spirit".

She added, "People become vegetarian for health reasons, but bacon is still f--ing good, and I know that". I think she'll always surprise people with what she does, but she's not a malicious person in any way.

'I made a partner decision.

The wedding took place a month after their Malibu, California home was destroyed by the Woolsey wildfire, with Liam turning hero to save their pets as the blaze closed in on the coastal pad they shared.

"But the timing felt right and I go with my heart". "They both wanted to get married".
