"It is a story of my life and my sisters", Jo, the protagonist who Alcott based off herself, is heard saying in the trailer.

The full trailer for Little Women was released on Tuesday. This first footage follows Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh and Eliza Scanlen as the March sisters, four independent, imaginative, ahead-of-their-time young women coming of age in the 1860s. But low and behold, this movie actually looks fun!

"Just because my dreams are different than yours, it doesn't mean they're unimportant", Watson's Meg tells Jo. It makes it feel like this setting is modern to these characters, so rather than feeling like stodgy relics or distant ancestors, their lives and concerns become immediate.

The first trailer has been released for Little Women, Greta Gerwig's upcoming version of the Louisa May Alcott novel, which is set for release in December.

Major household names, Emma Thompson, Meryl Streep and Laura Dern feature and with new kid on the block, Timothée Chalamet, who won rave reviews for his Beautiful Boy performance, the line-up truly is unbelievable.

Sony Pictures opens the film wide on Christmas Day.

The 25-year-old reunites with Ladybird director Greta Gerwig - under whom she earned her third Oscar nomination - alongside a starry cast, including some of Hollywood's most revered actors and an equally impressive roster of rising stars.
