There is little doubt that Star Wars fans are now thrilled with the idea that Ewan McGregor will be returning as Obi-Wan Kenobi in a new Disney+ series.

If the Obi-Wan series comes together, it will be the third live-action Star Wars show on Disney+. Lucasfilm are involved in both.

The series - slated to hit Disney's upcoming streaming service, which launches in November - is still untitled, and details are scarce at this point.

Obi-Wan's adventures will instead find a home on the smaller screen rather than the silver screen, joining other Star Wars Disney+ shows like The Mandalorian. A few Star Wars-related television series will be available on Disney Plus, including a show regarding Obi-Wan Kenobi. He was a definite highlight in the underwhelming Star Wars prequel trilogy. A standalone film featuring the character was reportedly in the works past year with McGregor and director Stephen Daldry (The Reader) attached.

In an interview with the Sun previous year, McGregor's Star Wars co-star Hayden Christensen said he'd too be up for returning to the franchise as Anakin Skywalker. Before the prequels, Alec Guinness played the older Jedi in the original Star Wars trilogy. And it looks like the Obi-Wan project isn't quite dead after all. However, it's believed that Lucasfilm and owner Disney was more than likely going to be officially revealing this new production during the studio's D23 Expo next weekend. The second, which fans will care about a bit more, is that "he will be performing alongside a familiar mechanical co-star".

So what's new? According to two separate sources, I've heard that Ewan McGregor has actually put pen to paper and inked a contract to return as the iconic Jedi Master.

He will also be seen in an upcoming 2019 American horror film Doctor Sleep later this year.
