Jennifer Vaughn, the girl's step-grandmother, was babysitting the child on August 11 when she called the girl's mother to say she should rush home. He said he determined through interviews that the child was burned as a punishment by a family member who was watching her. Authorities say Jennifer Vaughn was arrested Monday.

Horrific pictures of the girl's feet - severely burned and blistered- were shared by her mother to local media outlets.

When Smith arrived home, she found her daughter screaming.

Vaughn told Smith to come over immediately but refused to give more detail.

"Kaylee is going to need several surgeries".

Smith is the fiancee of Vaughn's son, Kyle Vaughn.

A two-year-old is recovering after getting burns on her feet.

Potter said doctors told him "submersion for 3 to 4 seconds in 140-degree water" would cause the type of burns the toddler has, according to WDEF.

Since the incident, Vaughn has been charged with aggravated child abuse and is being held on a $150,000 bond.

Rhea County Detective Rocky Potter said the burns went two to three inches above the girl's ankles.

Vaughn has been charged under Haley's Law, a USA statute that makes the offence a Class A felony and could land Vaughn with up to 80 years in prison.

Kaylee was rushed to the hospital with scald burns.

The crowdfunding page said the girl's parents have lost work and are struggling with "huge medical expenses" for their daughter's treatment.

"She goes every Monday for at least the next eight weeks for surgeries to try and fix the damage that has been done to her", she said. "It's not right. There is nothing in this world that a 2-year-old can do, no matter how bad they lashed out at you".
