Maddox's decision to attend the South Korean college came after months of United States and worldwide campus tours - including a stop by NYU - before he settled on Yonsei.

The 18-year-old's adopted father Brad Pitt was not present to see Maddox off - their relationship has been reportedly strained since their heated altercation on a private plane three years ago.

Still, ANGELINA JOLIE had a hard time keeping it together when she dropped her son Maddox off at Yonsei University in South Korea.

One fan asks when Jolie plans to leave South Korea, and the actress shares that she's leaving that same day and is "trying not to cry".

Angelina found the time to chat with fellow students son at the campus of Yonsei University, and even took pictures with excited young people. "[Yonsei] seems like a great school", Angelina told the students who interacted with her.

"I look forward to all he will do", she said. "He has been studying Korean language".

Angelina - who adopted Maddox from an orphanage in Cambodia - helped him settle in before she headed back home to America.

"He's very close to his siblings and they all hope to visit", the insider said of Pax, 15, Zahara, 14, Shiloh, 13, and 11-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.

Yonsei is part of a trio of South Korea's most highly regarded universities known as SKY - made up of Seoul National University, Korea University, and Yonsei University.

In an essay she penned for ELLE, she said: "I could not be prouder of my sons for the men they are becoming, the way they respect their sisters and are respected by them".
