Todd Phillips reveals 'Joker' storyline

"I think he's the greatest actor", says Phillips.

"I thank God no one's been hurt, and I thank the fearless and resourceful security and law enforcement people for protecting us", De Niro said in his statement. "We just wrote our own version of where a guy like Joker might come from". It's based mostly on the DC Comics Character Joker. That's what was interesting to me.

Right now DC Fans probably are anxious about what to expect from a low budget full stand alone story being told this way, but for me this is exactly where DC can do some real magic with their big screen stories, take their characters and just deliver fresh stories for them and considering that Joker is to be R Rated, anything is possible with it.

With all these photo-reveals, I can't help but feel we're going to be getting a new trailer soon.

"We had Federal Bureau of Investigation guys showing up to search the set", Phillips recalls, admitting he was somewhat surprised by De Niro's nonchalance when he showed up on set - and that he even showed up at all.

According to Phillips, "Joker" was influenced by some of De Niro's most celebrated movies - even if the actor wasn't aware of it.

When Todd Phillips' _Joker_ hits the screen, audiences are in store for an intense, enthralling performance from Joaquin Phoenix as Arthur Fleck - the man who will eventually become the iconic, anarchic villain who gleefully terrorises Gotham City. The dialogue "put on a happy face" is enough to remind the viewers of the creepiness related to the character of Joker.

The psychological drama also stars veteran Robert De Niro and Marc Maron of "Deadpool 2" fame. The film follows the transformation of a struggling stand-up comedian to a full-blown criminal force of nature.

Catch Joker in theaters October 4.
