In the new trailer for Blumhouse Productions' upcoming thriller The Hunt, a group of strangers wake to find themselves gagged and bound in a remote clearing, only to soon learn they've been gathered for a very specific objective: to be hunted "for sport" by people known as "elites".

Trailer reveals aside, this could be a fun exercise in macabre Battle Royale mayhem. But the themes are especially timely and topical in today's climate and the cast - including Ike Barinholtz, Emma Roberts, Justin Hartley, and Ethan Suplee - looks badass.

Perhaps the most enticing thing, at least for this writer, is the fact that it's like a reunion of creatives behind fantastic HBO series The Leftovers.

The Hunt, also starring Ethan Suplee and Justin Harley, will be hitting the USA on September 27 and arriving in Australia on October 17. Craig Zobel is directing based on a script by Damon Lindelof (The Leftovers, Lost) and Nick Cuse.

Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing. They band together under the leadership of Betty Gilpin's character - who seems to more than know her way around a firearm. However, this time, one of the 12 people being hunted knows the game better than the hunters, and starts to fight back.

Glow star Betty Gilpin is fighting to survive in the new trailer for upcoming thriller, The Hunt. Blumhouse Productions' two-minute trailer teases a lethal game, lots of gruesome deaths, and even throws in an adorable pig for good measure. From Jason Blum, the producer of Get Out and The Purge series, and Damon Lindelof, co-creator of The Leftovers and Lost, the movie stars two-time Oscar victor Hilary Swank. Jason Blum (Get Out, The Purge) is producing through his Blumhouse Productions alongside Lindelof.
