U.S. News & World Report's Best Hospitals ranks Cleveland Clinic as the number 1 hospital for heart care, and the number 4 hospital in America. The Salisbury Township hospital is the only regional hospital to make the U.S. News national rankings in at least one specialty every year but one since 1996.

U.S. News said its annual Best Hospitals ranking and ratings, now in their 30 year, are created to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or for common elective procedures.

Morristown Medical Center President Trish O'Keefe said the honor reflects the efforts of those at the hospital and throughout the Atlantic Health system. The Best Hospitals Honor Roll includes the 20 hospitals that deliver exceptional treatment across multiple areas of care.

U.S. News & World Report has been evaluating medical facilities for 30 years and is considered the "most widely-used hospital ranking survey", The News & Observer has reported. "This year we revised the methodology to incorporate new measures of patient-centered care and to enhance how we account for differences in hospitals' patient populations".

Mayo's closest competition came from Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, which ranked second, and third-place Johns Hopkins Memorial in Baltimore.
