Back in early May we started to hear rumblings of a new Mortal Kombat movie beginning preparation for filming, now recent news has surfaced regarding who is to play as Sub-Zero.

Who else should be cast in the Mortal Kombat movie?

Sub-Zero was one of the original characters featured in the 1992 game and is known for his attacks involving ice.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Joe Taslim from The Raid will be playing Sub-Zero. Since then, a release date for the new Mortal Kombat movie has been revealed, but further details have been somewhat scarce.

If anything, Taslim is more than equipped to don the cowl of Sub-Zero. The film is set to shoot in South Australia later this year, an individual with knowledge of the project tells TheWrap. The 1995 film from director Paul W.S. Anderson focused on heroes Liu Kang, Sonya Blade, and Johnny Cage as they fight for Earthrealm against Shang Tsung and his fighters. The current screenplay is by Greg Russo. He also is well-versed in a variety of other styles, including pencak silat, wushu, and taekwondo, so in a way he would fit the role of the iconic Mortal Kombat character.

Wan is producing the flick, with Simon McQuoid on board as director; Todd Garner will also produce, with Larry Kasanoff, E. Bennett Walsh, Michael Clear, and Sean Robins executive producing. Taslim parlayed his prowess into stunt-heavy roles, more recently in Netflix's super bloody (even more bloody than previous Mortal Kombat movies) The Night Comes For Us. The film was followed by a sequel, "Mortal Kombat Annihilation", which released in 1997.

Now that the casting process has begun, and with production expected to get underway very soon, we can expect a veritable torrent of Mortal Kombat casting news to come our way in short order.
