Arsenal started their summer spending with the addition of Brazilian teenager Gabriel Martinelli to their squad.

"Pepe's preference would be for Arsenal, who will be competing in the Europa League this season".

"We are working, the club, and also thinking about how we can improve", Emery said, via Arsenal's website. We are definitely looking for players.

Since the end of last season fans have been filled with reports of a "limited budget", but the club have done tremendously well to secure the signing of Pepe.

Pepe scored 23 goals for Lille last season, finishing second in the Ligue 1 goalscoring charts behind Paris Saint-German's Kylian Mbappe.

According to Sky Sports News, the formalities have been sorted with Lille with respect to the transfer fee and the winger will head to the Gunners' Carrington training base for a medical in the coming days. "At the beginning we were thinking to do one player to achieve the possibility to sign, but only if we can really, really improve this position". I want a team that is better than a year ago, so the players can achieve a lot being with us this season. The Norwegian manager has to spend on players in the summer and bring in more reinforcements despite signing Daniel James and Aaron Wan Bissaka. We want to find someone who can play between the lines, without forgetting that Milik is a centre-forward, but also strong with his feet.

"The transfer window is so long". Yet, because Saliba is on loan with Saint-Etienne for the rest of this season, it doesn't help the Gunners now as it looks to break back into the top four, an increasingly hard challenge year over year.
