Universal Pictures invited viewers behind the scenes of its upcoming film Cats, a silver-screen take on the famous musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber based on T.S. Eliot's collection of poems Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, with a brand-new featurette.

Taylor Swift fans finally get to see some of the results of all those years spent studying her roommates Meredith and Olivia - and also, not incidentally, some time with a choreographer - in a new behind-the-scenes teaser for the movie "Cats".

The trailer for the film version of the musical Cats is coming Friday, but before that Universal Studios released a sneak peek of the lengthy rehearsal process the cast undertook to prepare to play their feline counterparts.

And of course, the other thing the brand new feature gives viewers a taste of is the stunning, larger than life set that was built to bring the world of Cats to life.

"I was cast in 1981, just before we opened", Judi Dench explains.

"We've used digital fur technology to create the most flawless covering of fur", said Hooper, who previously directed the musical Les Misérables and won the Best Director Oscar for The Kings Speech.

"When you see people that are at the top of their game doing it, it raises your bar as well", said fellow cast member Idris Elba.

She says: "My first memories of performance go back to when I was in Pennsylvania growing up".

As Twitter users pointed out, she also appears to be wearing cat socks, because you can never be too on brand. "This film is an event", Jennifer Hudson says.

In one clip, director Hooper suggests the "timely story" will explore "inclusion and redemption".

Cats is out on December 20. Numerous stars appear in the video below, which is a teaser for the big trailer that is dropping on Friday.
