Tim Duncan is returning to the San Antonio Spurs as an assistant coach this season. Duncan has remained involved with the franchise since retiring in 2016. Duncan and Spurs video coordinator Will Hardy will join Chip Engelland and Becky Hammon on the bench alongside Popovich.

Duncan is a 15-time NBA All-Star, was the Rookie of the Year in 1998, is a two-time NBA MVP and 15-time All-Defensive Team player.

Five-time National Basketball Association champion Tim Duncan is preparing his return to the National Basketball Association but players in the Western Conference won't have to worry about his presence in the paint. He has always been one of Popovich's favorites, even going back to 1997 in the days leading up to San Antonio taking Duncan with the No. 1 overall pick in that year's draft.

Tim has learned from the greatest coach of all-time in Gregg Popovich and a litany of assistant coaches who have all gone on to have successful careers after working with Duncan and Pop in San Antonio. "From that moment, I knew he was a special individual because he basically talked about everything but basketball".

Former team intern Will Hardy was also announced as an assistant coach.
