Engined Corvette to be named Stingray

Although this engine still uses pushrods, and will be unable to match the low-down torque of turbocharged alternatives, the all-alloy unit has many virtues: it is light, responsive, relatively cheap to build and able to generate around 500bhp with minimal work. The Chevrolet Corvette has been around since the 1950s and this eighth generation will be its most significant update as it will also be offered as a mid-engine model for the first.

Following the reveal and through to early 2020, the new Corvette will go on a tour of some 125 US dealerships on the East and West coasts. "We're happy to give these fans, and all sports auto enthusiasts, a way to see and learn about the vehicle at the same time as those participating live in California".

This vehicle is expected to cost significantly higher than the outgoing model, given how much it has changed from the outgoing generation. After decades of anticipation, though, even twelve additional days have proven too much for some Corvette fans to wait, with a pair of tickets to this week's event selling online for over $15,000 ($12,000).

Some fans, for example, took to criticizing the functionality and design of the new steering wheel as soon as Chevrolet showed it off last week and implied it'd already soured them on the rest of the auto. We're just as excited as you are and we're lucky enough to be attending the reveal of the 2020 C8 Corvette in Orange County, California on Thursday, July 18.
