Crewmember on DC series 'Titans' is killed in on-set accident

On Thursday, Warner Bros. announced that one of the DC Comics show's crew members, special effects coordinator Warren Appleby, died following an accident at a special effects facility. A auto was supposed to flip on to its side, which occurred as planned, but a piece of metal from an unknown source was sent flying and hit him in the head. He reportedly died while he was being transported to the hospital.

According to Warner Bros., the veteran special effects coordinator was preparing for an upcoming shoot at an offsite facility when the fatal accident occurred.

The DC Universe show Titans has been noted for its gritty fighting sequences and brutality in what it puts the characters through.


In addition to Titans, Appleby's other credits included serving as special effects coordinator and/or special effects supervisor for The Shape of Water, IT and IT: Chapter 2, 11.22.63, and The Strain.

The statement says Appleby was a special effects co-ordinator and had a 25-year career in television and motion pictures.

They went on to express their "deepest condolences, and heartfelt love and support, to Warren's family and friends at this most hard time".


'I knew Warren as a top-notch FX man but I admired him as a father and family man, and a colleague, too, ' del Toro told Deadline. He was very near and very dear and an integral part of our core team. Friday's incident occurred during filming of the second season of Titans. Television, launched on the DC Universe streaming service last October. The provincial ministry of labour is investigating.
