Laurent Koscielny is ready for a legal battle with Arsenal amid a bitter contract row with the club.

Laurent Koscielny has been a standout star for Arsenal since his arrival back in 2011.

Alves recently made history when he became the first player to have won 40 professional trophies in his career. "They started one day being captain when they were young", Emery went on to explain.

The Telegraph are reporting that Granit Xhaka is the leading candidate to replace Koscielny as the captain of Arsenal.

"We are really happy with Holding's progress. You need time and, in my opinion, we are on a good way to create something special in the team as well".

Emery has expressed a desire to get big-money transfers over the line, with Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos another of those registering on his recruitment radar.

And this was not the only Holding-inspired comment Emery had this week.

The Gunners boss says he wants to add "three or four" players to his squad before they kick off the new season away at Newcastle on Sunday, August 11.

However, speaking on Arsenal's captaincy situation, Emery divulged their are a number of players in contention for the role, including Xhaka and Mesut Ozil.

Of the other players to have led the side last season, Koscielny is forcing his way out, while Petr Cech and Aaron Ramsey have already left.

The only other English senior players in the squad are Calum Chambers, who spent last season on loan at Fulham, and fringe right-back Carl Jenkinson.

And speaking ahead of Wednesday's International Champions Cup match against Bayern Munich, Emery told reporters: "We are being patient and calm because we really want to sign players who can help us with a big performance, and also because we think in the team we have very good players and young players".

A deal has been agreed to bring in Saint-Etienne centre-back William Saliba for £27m ($34m), with the 18-year-old set to sign a five-year contract despite late interest from north London rivals Tottenham in the defender.
