Saliba will join Arsenal in a deal between £25m and £30m, but the 18-year-old will return to Saint-Étienne for the upcoming season.

It is Sky Sports that reports that the North London club have seemingly beaten arch-rivals Tottenham in the transfer race to sign the 18-year-old centre-back.

Arsenal lost Aaron Ramsey to Juventus in this summer transfer window and his departure has left a huge hole in Emery's midfield options and the gunners have identified Dani Ceballos as the flawless replacement even if they might have him at the Emirates Stadium for just one year but it would still be a good deal as this would give Joe Willock time to develop as a player. He will sign a five-year deal and will spend the coming season back on loan with Saint-Etienne. Here, William Saliba is set to join Arsenal....

Saliba is one of Europe's most highly-rated young centre-backs and signing him is a massive coup for Arsenal, whose defence is in desperate need of reinforcements.

Like Arsenal, Madrid are already in the United States and will take on Bayern Munich on Sunday in Houston.

But the deal did not seem to make any progress and Sky Sports have been claiming that the Bhoys are not happy with the offer since they want more cash upfront in exchange of Kieran Tierney.

A third bid is also being prepared for Kieran Tierney, with Arsenal looking to finally come up with a package that Celtic find acceptable for the left-back.

His arrival suggests the Scottish champions are preparing for life after Tierney with Arsenal's interest still strong.

Wilfried Zaha remains Emery's No.1 target, but a move for the Crystal Palace star continues to look unlikely due to the £80m ($100m) price tag Palace are demanding.

Earlier this week Arsenal manager Unai Emery insisted the club were targeting "very big, very expensive" deals in the transfer market.
