Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven has said, however, that intervention from US politicians would not influence the course of justice in Sweden. The recording artist from NY, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, who has gained support from other prominent artists and USA politicians, claims he acted in self-defense and was provoked during the incident on June 30.

In a case that has received considerable social media and political attention, the 30-year-old musician and producer from NY, real name Rakim Mayers, has been in jail since his arrest on July 3, three days after the incident took place. A representative for Suneson told the TMZ website that the trial will start within the next two weeks and that it will likely last three days.

According to reports, an official date has not been set, though the prosecutor is said to be recommending it begin Tuesday, with it continuing Thursday and Friday.

Though two alleged victims were involved in the altercation, the charges only pertain to one, as the other allegations were dropped "due to insufficient supporting evidence", Suneson said. If convicted, he could face up to two years in Swedish prison. A video surfaced online that kind of proved his claims but the rapper released a video that showed them warning the man from following them.

Jovicic has said his client was acting in self-defense after being followed by two men who would not leave him alone.

He then said directly to the camera: "Just for the cameras, we don't want no problems with these boys, they keep following us".

Mayers has said he is innocent and that the men provoked him and his two companions who have also been charged with assault.

"He is extremely disappointed that the prosecutor has put the other account (of the events) ahead of his own", Jovicic said during a press briefing.

A nationwide campaign of support is taking place in the States following the events, with numerous rapper's friends from the music industry backing it, such as Post Malone, Nicki Minaj, Sean "Diddy" Combs, Tyler the Creator, Tyga, Kanye West and his wife Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber and many others. In a captured sequence, one of those men appears to hurl a pair of headphones at Rocky's security guard as a weapon.

Prosecutors said that ASAP Rocky was formally charged in the June 30 incident after they'd reviewed video footage from the scene and heard from witnesses. For now though, take a look at some of the most potent reactions below and let us know how you're feeling in the comments.
