Even cooler is that the senior team behind Paramount Animation is largely made up of women, which feels appropriately fierce and feminist given the Spice Girls' longtime message of girl power.

Spice Girls fever is at an all-time high and the film industry has clocked on: a Spice Girls movie is in the works.

The Spice Girls are finally making their triumphant return to movie theaters over 20 years after the release of Spice World.

According to the paper, the story will see the girls reimagined as superheroes, and Emma Bunton, Mel C, Geri Halliwell and Mel B will be lending their voices to the production.

The film is in early development with other 2020 releases, the Hollywood Reporter revealed Wednesday. "They are very involved".

Paramount Animation president Mireille Sofia told The Hollywood Reporter that all five Spice members "had an idea that [they've] been developing" and are "very involved" in the project, which now has no release date. The untitled feature will be co-written by Karen McCullah and Kiwi Smith with Simon Fuller serving as a producer.

Regardless, this will be the first Spice Girls feature film since the 1997 musical film Spice World, a lighthearted comedy starring the group and featuring plethora of stars including Roger Moore, Hugh Laurie, Stephen Fry, Elton John, Richard O'Brien, Bob Hoskins, Jennifer Saunders, Richard E. Grant, Elvis Costello, and Meat Loaf.

It will apparently also include some new songs.
