LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Superhero blockbuster "Avengers: Endgame" was the top victor at the MTV Movie and TV awards on Monday in a show marked by messages of empowerment and self-esteem.

Host Zachary Levi introduced the "Fast and Furious" star with the award.

The MTV Movie & TV Awards are like the Oscars, the Emmys and the Kids Choice Awards all rolled into one and we totally love it. He accepted the Generation Award while giving his speech about how he refused to conform to Hollywood and their standards about how someone should look like.

Breakout singer Lizzo gave her first awards show performance with her hit single "Juice", an anthem to self-esteem. I love what Zachary was saying because that's us.

Elisabeth Moss, star of "The Handmaid's Tale", took the award for best performance in a TV show, a category that was entirely made up of women. Apparently MTV thinks "Ruth Bader Ginsburg vs. Inequality" is less important than "Captain Marvel vs. Minn-Erva". And finally came the biggest baddy of all time, Josh Brolin as Thanos (Avengers: Endgame), who took the award for the Best Villain. "These are the women that trained me and who were also the stunt doubles for Captain Marvel".

Despite mixed reactions to Game of Thrones' eighth and final season, it won best show at the ceremony. Don't get me wrong, cumulatively, it is one of the best shows on this planet.

On a more serious note, Surviving R Kelly-the Lifetime docu-series in which dozens of women detailed their accounts of alleged abuses by R. Kelly-took home the award for Best Documentary and brought some of the survivors to the stage. Sandy Bullock started off the night strong with her Most Frightened Performance win for Bird Box.

"So Hollywood conformed to me and here I am with all of you receiving the generation award". Below you will find an abbreviated list of the 2019 winners.
