After eight and a half minutes after launch the side boosters landed at the spaceport, but the Central block of the first stage, which was to go on a barge "Of Course I Still Love You" in the Atlantic ocean, missed, and crashed nearby.

Meant to confirm its military use, the 3rd flight of the heaviest launcher of the world had to face many unprecedented issues. SMC procured the mission to provide spaceflight for multiple DoD, NASA and NOAA-sponsored military and civil experiments and to demonstrate the SpaceX Falcon Heavy launch vehicle for future operational DOD missions.

Musk said it was "our toughest rocket launch ever".

It was commissioned by the U.S. Department of Defense, the key contractor for commercial space companies such as SpaceX.

Founded in 2002 by Elon Musk, SpaceX has disrupted the long-established space launch market.

These individual capsules are then placed into a container that is fitted onto a host satellite and sent into space for a price starting at just under $5,000 (£3,925), Business Insider reported.

Got a tip about SpaceX or another tech company?

The payloads on the satellites Falcon Heavy put into orbit included an atomic clock NASA is testing for space navigation, another testing new telescope technologies, and a solar sail project part-funded by the Planetary Society, a non-profit organization headed by Bill Nye, popularly known as the "Science Guy" from his frequent U.S. TV appearances. The goal of the group's LightSail is to become the first orbiting spacecraft to be powered completely by sunlight.

In a first-ever successful catch try, SpaceX's net-enclosed barge Ms. Tree (formerly Mr. Steven) achieved to snag one among the 2 Falcon significant fairings as they tumbled from house. now SpaceX has to see if all this work can payoff in substantial price savings for future missions. It has the ability to lift almost 64 metric tons (141,000 pounds) into orbit-more than a 737 jetliner loaded with passengers, crew, luggage and fuel.
