It wasn't immediately clear when the computer issue would be solved.

"We are aware of a systems issue in store and are working as quickly as possible to get this fixed". "Every single register at the Richfield [Target] is down".

"We're aware that guests are now unable to make purchases at Target stores", Target spokesman Joe Poulos said in an email.

"Target has identified an issue impacting checkout at some of our USA stores, " spokeswoman Molly Snider said at the time. Rosman tweeted that she spent an hour shopping for children's camp supplies before the system shut down.

Target has since caught wind of what's happening and tweeted out an apology to customers who were affected.

Customers took to Twitter to complain about the outage under the hashtag #targetdown with many users commending Target employees for handling the situation well.

Target operates more than 1,800 stores in 49 states, which employ more than 300,000 people, according to the company's corporate website.
