To control these new light bulbs, you'll need to use Philips' new app. Download the Bluetooth app by clicking on the button below.

As the name suggests, this new line of bulbs makes Philips' smart lighting system even more accessible by eliminating the need for a hub.

At launch, the Philips Hue lights with Bluetooth will only work with Amazon's Alexa. Bulbs purchased elsewhere also easily connect to compatible Echo devices - power on your light bulb and say "Alexa, discover my devices". By adding Bluetooth to our Philips Hue smart lighting, we're making it easy to experiment and have fun with light at home. The bulb is dimmable and capable of displaying 16 million colors and white temperatures ranging from 2000-6500K, and it has a light output of 800 lumens, which is roughly equivalent to a 60-watt bulb.

With Philips Hue Bluetooth smart lighting, there's no wiring or guesswork when it comes to choosing the right lighting for your space. In addition to the luminaries themselves, you've also needed a smart hub to manage everything, adding to the overall cost. Control your lights hands-free - Philips Hue with Bluetooth also works with your voice.

Now is a great time to invest in smart light bulbs, but what should you get?

Initially, the Philips Hue Bluetooth bulbs will be offered in both the A19 traditional shape, and as BR30 downlights.

For Google Home and Google Nest devices, you can seamlessly set up your Hue Bluetooth lights in the Google Home app in a few simple steps.

The best part is that the Bluetooth-controlled Hue bulbs price isn't increasing over their bridge-required versions. After screwing the bulb in, the Hue app will walk through pairing it with a phone.

Now, the company behind the bulbs is releasing Philips Hue with Bluetooth for direct control without any additional accessories. Missing from the Bluetooth app are the Routines (Wake-Up, Home and Away, Go to Sleep) and Timers that you get with the Wi-Fi Hue app. More products will be Bluetooth-enabled later this year and in 2020.
